The Very True Story of Christian the Lion

I wanted to share this video that just made my heart burst.  If you're in a bad mood, feeling low, irritated, angry, or just plain disconnected from a sense of well being, I think this short video will help you find your heart.

There is nothing like the love of an animal.  If you haven't experienced it, go to your local shelter and adopt a dog.  Pay no attention to those resistant thoughts that tell you it will be too much work - they will all become irrelevant once you fall in love.

What are you putting in your mouth?

If I had to recommend that everyone see one movie this year, it would be Food, Inc.  Aside from the humane treatment of animals (which is addressed in this movie as well), the other cause I’m most passionate about is changing the U.S. food industry to help Americans improve their health.  We eat based on convenience, accessibility, and cost.  Consequently, what we end up eating is fake, nutrition-less, sugary, chemical filled, preservative laden calories.  And it’s killing us.

Here’s a fun fact to consider during the health care debate:  In the 1960’s, 17% of the national income was spent on food, while 5% was spent on health care.  Today, 9% of the national income is spent on food, and 18% is spent on health care.

Perhaps if organic, nutrient rich, real food (i.e.- fruits, vegetables, farm raised/hormone- free meat, whole grains, etc.) was more financially accessible than chips, crackers, sodas, deli meat, frozen foods, and every fast food option in the nation – our country wouldn’t be so sick and healthcare wouldn’t be so outrageous.

People are discerning about what you put in your mouth when it comes to their lust life – my hope is that in seeing this movie, people will be more discerning about what they put in their mouth when it comes to their health and the humanity of other living things.

Here’s a clip - (Food, Inc. is currently on Time Warner Cable Movies on Demand and is also available at Blockbuster and Netflix)
